The pH of a solution ranges from 0 to 14. An acid has a pH less than 7. Pure water is neutral and has a pH of 7. The pH of a solution is given by pH = -logx where x represents the concentration of the hydrogen ions in the solution in moles per liter. Find the pH if the hydrogen ion concentration is 1 x 10-1
I don't know why there's chemistry in my pre-calc course, but I don't have a choice to skip this.
This was recently asked by someone else, and I think that this might help: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/520c2c6de4b07ba29fdb85e1
I read that, but I don't know enough about it to solve it.
You are not doing anything except plugging in the given hydrogen ion concentration in the given formula.
The other information is simply describing the information that you get when you solve for pH. If your value is anywhere within those ranges, you can find out whether your solution is basic, acidic, or neutral.
Ok, thanks
