If there is too little air, why won't natural gas explode? Not enough hydrogen Not enough potassium Not enough oxygen Not enough moisture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

PLEASEEEEEEEEE help

OpenStudy (aaronq):

can you write an equation for the combustion (explosion) of natural gas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??? um no

OpenStudy (aaronq):

could you write one for any hydrocarbon, like methane?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

CH4 + 2O2 --> CO2 + 2H2O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

CH4 + 2O2 -> CO2 + 2H2O this is methane

OpenStudy (aaronq):

natural gas is simply a mix of hydrocarbons.. \(C_yH_x\) + O2 --> CO2 + H2O

OpenStudy (aaronq):

when something burns, it's being oxidized by oxygen in the air (atmosphere), so without it there will be no combustion. Now re-read your question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so not enough oxygen?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you

OpenStudy (aaronq):

can't give you the answer directly. no problem

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Good explanation, @aaronq !!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

@abb0t Thanks, dude
