Any engineering geeks here know the minimum lift force an helicopter's rotor must generate in order to lift the helicopter off the ground?, also does the rotational speed of the rotor play a role as well?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well.. that depends on the weight of the helicopter itself, so the minimum lift it must gain is equal to that of the helicopter also yes, the rotational speed would play a role, because, the helicopter generates lift, by sucking the air downloadwards, and thus the third law says the air sucks the helicopter up, thus if the blade rotates faster, the sucking is more and so the lift is also more..

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Brilliant explanation! Thanks!

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Thus in equation form I can say \[F_{L} = mg\]. Where \[F_{L}\] is the lift force.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well .. that would be the MINIMUM lift..

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Yeah I know.
