Consider the following unbalanced redox reaction: MnO4 – (aq) plus Sb H2 (aq) yields Mn O2 (s) plus Sb (s) What is the reducing agent in the reaction? Answer MnO4- SbH3 MnO2 Sb

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

reducing agent is substance which get oxidized itself by giving electrons :) getting sleep by pumpkin love u hope you will solve it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe its Mn02- because it gives electrons right? Thanks @chmvijay have a nice nap! lol

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Careful: in such a question, the reducing agent must be understood as one of the reactants, not one of the products.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mn04- because it gives electrons? I believe i meant to say 4 not 2 for my first answer.

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

No, because \(MnO_4^-\) gains electrons by: \(MnO_4^- + 4H^+ + 3e^- \rightarrow MnO_2 + 2H_2O\)
