5y+2=1/2(10y+4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it asking you to solve for y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, the left side looks ok for now, but we need to do something to the right side. It would help to simplify the right side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you see anything you can do to the 1/2(10y+4) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distributive property?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep. Multiply it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should end up with 5y+2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I got that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, so now it says that 5y+2=5y+2..makes sense, right? Anything you put in for y is going to give you same answer on the left and right side of the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Even you use the original equation you will get the same answer on the left and right side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thank you so much
