HELPP WILL GIVE A MEDALL!! From a boat on the lake, the angle of elevation to the top of a cliff is 11°50'. If the base of the cliff is 1568 feet from the boat, how high is the cliff (to the nearest foot)?

OpenStudy (rob1525):

I would first converts the degrees to radians.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do tht

OpenStudy (rob1525):

Is ur connection as slow as mine cuz it sucks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea mine is kinda slow right now

OpenStudy (rob1525):

k so there is 360 degrees in a circle as there is 2pi radians in a circle right?

OpenStudy (rob1525):

Do u know how to solve for x?

OpenStudy (rob1525):

youll need a graphing calc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 radian is equal to 57 degrees and 1degree =60 minutes 50 minutes=0.83 degrees 11degrees 50 minutes=11.83 degrees let the height of cliff be x then tan(11.83)=x/1568 using a scientific calculator, tan(11.83)=0.209 therefore,x=1568*0.209 feet

OpenStudy (rob1525):

Is ur calc in degrees or radians. This is very important.

OpenStudy (rob1525):

Yup, that what I got I just converted to radians then solved the same way u just did. Nice job.

OpenStudy (rob1525):

I normally keep my calc in radian mode cuz radians is mostly what I use in trig. but degrees word just as fine as long as u don't forget to switch mode in ur calc. Forgot a few times and wonderd why my answer was wrong, lolz.
