OpenStudy (nincompoop):

what is lambda used for in mathematical inequalities? A function f is said to be convex on I if and only if λf(x)+(1−λ)f(y)≥f(λx+(1−λ)y)forallx,y∈Iand0≤λ≤1

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

@satellite73 @.Sam.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

In this case, it is a parameter that can vary between 0 and 1. Lambda has certain standard usages, but it is not so uniquely defined as, say pi.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isn't lambda a dance from the early 90s ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lambda is any number between 0 and 1, it can be 0.1, 0.5, 0.85..

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

I was going to tag you @Luis_Rivera but I knew you're going to throw me off the curb so I didn't

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You will find lambda commonly used for Eigenvalues and the Poisson Distribution. No doubt there are others. Those are just two that come immediately to mind.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

oh okay thanks, guys or gals
