Make a quantitative and qualitative statement about the following: water, carbon, iron, hydrogen gas, sucrose, table salt, mercury, gold, air.
Madam can you explain the question please.
I believe it is asking to give a qualitative statement about each one, such as water, and then a quantitative. I understand that a qualitative statement would be a general observation about the system while a quantitative statement would show numbers obtained by various measurements. I'm not sure if the answer should be something like: Water is comprised of hydrogen and oxygen, 2 hydrogen and one oxygen or water.
Yes @gabriellerenee it's correct.
this question asks you for the intensive and extensive properties
as for the quantitative, it pertains to numbers, measurements and units
What if it's something like Iron? That isn't a compound so could you write something for the quantitative like "Iron has a melting point of ...."?
Alright thank you :) I think I can figure the rest out, I just wasn't sure exactly what the question was asking for.
INTENSIVE PROPERTIES ARE: Temperature Pressure density Concentration Viscosity Refractive Index Surface Tension Specific Heat Boiling Point Freezing Point Melting Point EXTENSIVE PROPERTIES ARE: mass volume Force energy (all sorts)
example for Iron Here's what I believe it is being asked: intensive: has a density of 7.8 cubic gram extensive: 55.85 g.mo^-1
