OpenStudy (tkhunny):
3.14 is a common truncation approximation of \(\pi\). There are many approximations of \(\pi\). 3.14 simply persists in many textbooks and classrooms in the United States as an acceptable surrogate - usually to make calculations less confusing for beginning students.
