In chemistry class, Katy is doing a lab about chemical changes. Some of her recorded observations include: Mg metal – burned - bright light – produced white/gray powder. Zinc metal – dissolved in HCl. Sucrose – burned to black – distinct odor. Of the following choices, which best represents contrasting observations from Katy’s lab?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fe(s) + 2 HCl(aq) - - -> FeCl2(aq) + H2(g) The chloride crystallizes as FeCl2?4 H2O. Exposure to air gradually oxidizes the iron(II) to FeCl3 and Fe2O3. [ [ Oxidizing FeCl2 with Cl2 produces orange-yellow FeCl3, which has metal-nonmetal bonds with covalent character. Hope it helps but you have to study it yourself to get the answer =)

answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's most likely zinc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hopefully that helps

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

i also think its zinc. its sorta the odd man out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which one? a. Sucrose burned to black, Zinc metal dissolved in HCl b. Mg metal burned with bright light, Zinc metal dissolved in HCl c. Mg metal burned and produced white/gray powder, Sucrose burned to black d. Mg metal burned and produced white/gray powder, Mg metal burned with bright light

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm thinking b or a. Most likely B though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Np if I'm wrong I'm sorry :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

was he wrong??^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B was wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a is wrong too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then Whats The Answer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey guyes i need an answer plz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mg metal burned and produced white/gray powder, Sucrose burned to black- so its C
