@nirmalnema can u help?

OpenStudy (nirmalnema):

u have any idea which one is correct...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (nirmalnema):

u know how to solve it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (nirmalnema):

first replace the equality sign

OpenStudy (nirmalnema):

and solve the equality.. and get the intersection point

OpenStudy (phi):

you should learn how to change the equations 4x – 3y < –12 into slope-intercept form so you can find the lines. but you can do this: test the point (0,0) in both relations. that means replace x and y with 0 4x – 3y < –12 x – 6y >= 6 you will get 0 < -12 ? and 0 ≥ 6 ? both are false. So you should ignore any graph that has (0,0) colored in.

OpenStudy (phi):

Can you see what choices the answer might be ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i eliminated b an d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its either a or c?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. Now which one, a or c ? there is only one difference between the two graphs. They switched which line has a solid line (meaning ≤) and a dotted line (meaning <) you have to figure out which line should be solid and which is dotted. x – 6y >= 6 will be the solid line (because of = part of >=) one of the lines goes through (0,-1) (can you see that) which of the lines 4x – 3y < –12 x – 6y >= 6 goes through (0,-1). to find out , replace x with 0 and y with -1 which one has the point (0,-1) *on the line* can you figure that out ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it c?

OpenStudy (phi):

Here is what you get if you put (0,-1) into both equations 4x – 3y < –12 ---> -3*-1 = -12 ? 3 = -12 NO x – 6y >= 6 ----> -6*-1 = 6 ? 6 = 6 YES what that means is the line going through (0,-1) is x-6y≥6 (and should be solid)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi

OpenStudy (phi):

the site went flakey! the line going through (0,-1) is x-6y≥6 (and should be solid) I would pick the graph that is a solid line going through the point x=0, y = -1
