What is the slope of a line perpendicular to x - 5y = -10?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you need to rewrite the equation in slope intercept form y = 1/5 x + 2 the slope of the perpendicular is the negative reciprocal of the given line... so whats the slope of the given line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/5?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

solve the equation for "y", see what you get

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats correct so the slope of the perpendicular is \[m_{Perp} =-\frac{1}{m_{line}}\] so the easy way to now approach is is flip the fraction... and change the sign.. this will be the slope of the perpendicular.
