which is NOT a factor of 2x^2-32 ? A) x^2-32 B) 2 C) x-4 D) x^2-16 PLEASE HELP ME
If you fully factor the expression, it will be easier for you to see what is/is not a factor. First you have a GCF that you can pull out, so always start there. What you will be left with is a difference of squares... do you know how to factor that?
Or, you can just look to see which of the choices is clearly NOT a factor, because you can't multiply it by anything to get back the expression \(2x^2-32\)
ok hold on im going to try it
(that is, one of them is obviously NOT a factor, but I still think it's a good opportunity for you to factor the whole thing and then you can also see that the other 2 ARE clearly factors. :)
is the answer 2 ?
The answer? you mean the GCF?
yea
Oh, sorry.... i missed that "2" in the answer choices... lol. Well... if 2 is not a factor, then there is NOTHING that I can multiply 2 by and get back to the original expression. \(2\cdot?=2x^2-32\) Is that true??
oh wait, would it be x^2-32 ?
right! because for all of the others, you can multiply them by something and get back the original expression! :)
yay, I understand it now
i need help with another question
You should post it as a new question. :) best way to get help is to post questions separately. I'll be on and off the site as I'm working on some other things, but if I can't respond, I'm sure someone will! :)
alright thanks!
