Factor out x^(2)-2x+x^(2)+x

OpenStudy (ashley_f97):

x^(2)-2x+x^(2)+x you want to start out b rearrange the equation by putting like terms together. x^2+x^2-2x+x 2x^2-x Do you know how to factor?

I know how to factor, but why is it 2x^2-x? I am not catching on to something here.

OpenStudy (ashley_f97):

I'm both at the movies with you and helping this person @thisSucks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry.

OpenStudy (ashley_f97):

In your equation, you have x^(2)-2x+x^(2)+x There are 2x^2 x^2 +x^2 and then you also have -2x +x which equals -x Therefore your equation is 2x^2-x You can't add an x^2 to an x, you can only add or subtract x^2's with other x^2's. The same goes for adding or subtracting x and x. (Don't worry, we're not actually at the movies)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh alright. Because I knew 2x^2, and I knew -x but I was forgetting that we just have the -2x+x grouped separately from the x^2+x^2. Thank you!

OpenStudy (ashley_f97):

No problem :)

She is so good in explaining this!
