What is the derivative of theta?

OpenStudy (psymon):

Theta is a variable, so you treat it just like you would x. So derivative of theta is just 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! So if it was (2-theta) would it equal one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, the question is: which variable are we differentiating?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[ \frac d{d\theta}\theta = 1 \]\[ \frac d{d\theta}(2-\theta) = \frac d{d\theta} 2- \frac d{d\theta}\theta = 0-1 = -1 \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac d{dx}\theta = \frac {d\theta}{dx} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but if we use theta as an angle, derivation of it will be the angular velocity..
