Sometimes, the act of accepting the freebie binds you to a contractual agreement to spend lots of money.
 
Some magazine houses offer freebies like a couple of books, or a bookshelf; once you agree to accept the "gift", you are automatically signed up for years of magazine subscriptions which are usually way more expensive than elsewhere. Book Clubs are a particularly irritating source of this tactic.
 
If you really want freebies without further obligation, go to a business convention like MacWorld, or CES, or The Money Show. You can grab all the ballpoint pens and candies you want from the booths. You may even get lucky and get a cap or a calendar.

Freebies can be anything! Although most websites ask for your credit card, but they will send you freebies? No, your basically paying for the stuff anyways.
