The attached blurb on the general form of a linear equation may help. http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/linear-equations.html

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As long as you don't have roots or square roots or any powers to the function then the function of x=y should be true, according to your website. Although it is not true for all statement, it is only for linear equations.

Directrix (directrix):

@Osako In general form, the linear equation x = y would be written as follows: 1x + (-1)y + 0 = 0. Do you agree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As long as the equation doesn't consist of power or roots then yes that equation may work.

Directrix (directrix):

If there were powers and roots, the equation would not be linear by definition of linear equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes that is correct.
