What is 2/5 + 7/9 + 2/3 as a fraction?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Find a common denominator! I'm thinking 45. Can you prove it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I found the common denominator. But the answer I got wasn't any of the multiple choice answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I got 18/ 45 + 35/45 + 30/ 45 and I added them all up and I don't know how to get it to a fraction.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Seems okay. What's wrong with (18+35+30)/45 = 83/45?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add the numerators together. when adding fractions the denominator does not increase if it is a "common denominator."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well because 83 /45 wasn't one of the answer options.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer options are 1 38/45, 14 11/17, 11/ 17 or 11/135.
