2x -3 (4x -2) = 5 (x-1) +8 -> 2x - 12x + 6 = 5x - 5 +8 not sure if I should work with -5 +8 and then bring the 6 over or not help please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A good tip is usually to move the x's on one side and then the regular numbers on the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that what I was trying to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, try and then I can correct you if I see something wrong, because what your thinking is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so 2x - 12x - 5x = -5 +8 -6 am I correct so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay :) okay wait

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-15 = -3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where is the x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-15x!! soory

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I may be wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you may be right :) Now what is \[-15x = -3\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:O oh gosh! okay :) x=0.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think your right. Let me just do the calculation on my own.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get the same answer. Lets hope we both are correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On the original paper when I got this problem wrong, my teacher wrote corrections and once It was at the point of dividing -15 into -3, she simplified it as a fraction. and resulted in 1/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would also have simplified it as a fraction :) but they are basically the same :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alrighty :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are an excellent teacher

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since I don't actually have to do anything I would say that your much better at what your doing than what you think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But you tell me if I'm doing something right or wrong and you remind me to combined terms and such :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, but you already know how to do that :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noo because I second guess and I become unsure! haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

See, you already know that not knowing isn't your problem :) Your problem is that you don't trust yourself. It will go away after you've practiced. Life advice from grumpy old! Good luck onwards :)

xD Thank you!!!
