George Washington's leadership abilities led the colonists to victory by his intelligence. The colonists also knew the geography of the land more than the British did, which gave them an advantage. Other countries (I'm not sure which) helped the colonists with supplies. The colonists' attitude that they would win helped them push through so they wouldn't give up, which eventually helped them win the war.
