what is the slope of the line with equation 6x + y = 12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well we always want to isolate y in this case when we do that we will end up with y = 12 -6x because we have to subtract 6x to both sides to get y by itself. From this we know y=mx + b where m is the slope. So can you tell me what is the number next to x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you also have to include the sign next to 6 is the sign negative or positive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great so the slope is -6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's the answer!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you want to get y by its self so you get it into the form of y=mx=b. you would subtract 6x from each side and get y=-6x+12. the slope is where the m would be so the slope is -6!
