how do yo simplify x^2+6+the square root of 1-x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That depends on the question. If the question is x^2 + 6 + the square root of (1 - x) you can't simplify it any further. You're done. If the question is x^2 + 6 + (the square root of 1) - x, you can. The square root of 1 is 1, therefore you have x^2 + 6 + 1 - x. This can be simplified to x^2 + 7 - x, or x^2 -x + 7 for neatness.

Basically, if the x is under the square root, you can't simplify. If the x is it's own term, you can. Just to clarify.
