Given that f(x) = 2x + 1 and g(x) = −5x + 2, solve for f(g(x)) when x = 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is \(g(3)\) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it is not clear let me know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I am confused..I'm not very good at this and was hoping I could get a walk through :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find \(g(3)\) where you see an \(x\) in \(g(x)=-5x+2\) you replace it by 3 and compute i.e. \[g(3)=-5\times 3+2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

clearer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it is! You think you could help me go through the rest though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure now that we have \(g(3)=-13\) then \[f(g(3))=f(-13)=2\times -13+2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait how did you get that -13?
