Requesting subgroups for language and culture. I asked a while back for a Japanese group but there weren't enough users or something like that, but recently when I go to look for questions to answer in the Language and Culture group it is a mess. Most of the questions belong in the English group and then there is a huge mix of Spanish/Japanese/Latin questions. (I believe there is a Spanish group...) Why not let normal users with a SS above a level tag questions into the correct group and when the question gets enough tags it move to that group.

OpenStudy (preetha):

Hi opcode. What tags do you suggest?

OpenStudy (opcode):

Well on other study website I have been on instead of subgroups there are tags, tags are a sort of organizing system that I believe are more efficient than subgroups. First the initial user is forced to choose one tag (normally the subject). Later on if another user sees the question and believes addition tags should be added they can add that tag they believe is needed, that is if they have a high enough level (smart score in this case). Currently on the left bottom of questions it shows what subgroup the question belongs to which is great and all but it becomes a hassle for you admins to create new subgroups the users want so why not introduce the system of creating new tags by users if they have a higher smart score. So you could have things like the main group: Mathematics, Science, English, Writing, History, etc. Then instead of adding subgroups, allow tags. This way it becomes more organized, say I wanted only to view two types of languages in the Language and Culture area, such as Latin and Japanese. I go ahead and I check the filter selecting Japanese and Latin and it removes questions that are not relevant to my query.

So, that's why I feel that moderators should have the option ot move a topic. Sort of like what Opcode said, but a little different. Instead of the member having the ability to move a topic or place new tags, a moderator should be able to do it. Say, if I post a history question in mathematics, then a moderator can come and add the appropriate tags to move it into the history section.

So this is going to take a while. I'll keep it on the stack - but will come back in a bit - and ask you again. I appreciate your thoughts. Smart people helping OS get smarter! Love it.
