Anybody know the answer to this inequality? 6x−4<−34 or 3x+10>10

OpenStudy (austinl):

Ok, we have two separate inequalities that would go on one number line. \(6x−4<−34\) OR \(3x+10>10\) We need to solve each of them individually. Lets start with \(6x-4<-34\) How would we solve for x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would u subtract 4 from both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add, my bad

OpenStudy (austinl):

Yep, so we would now have, \(6x<-30\) What next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide 6 on both sides :)

OpenStudy (austinl):

Indeed and we would have, \(x<-5\) for this one! Now onto the next! \(3x+10>10\) Solve it out! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0?

OpenStudy (austinl):

\(x>0\) correct! So we have, \(x<-5,~\text{OR}~x>0\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow, thanks! That really helped...

OpenStudy (austinl):

You are very welcome, and do you need to plot it on a number line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, but i think i know how to do that :) Thank you so much...

OpenStudy (austinl):

You are very welcome! Glad to help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I might need some help a little later, though...

OpenStudy (austinl):

Sure no problemo.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
