OpenStudy (anonymous):

Choose one property of water that makes it unique. Describe the property and explain the chemical or physical reason that causes water to have the property?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The problem wants us to talk about one reason for why water is different from other substances.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's talk about a physical property. Do you know what "density" is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You guys HAD to have talked about density in your class. "Density" is how tightly packed together the molecules are.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think we have but i did not go to the live lesson i was sick that day so i did not go to it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know about the physical states of matter? Gas Liquid Solid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It usually goes like this: Solid -- Most dense Liquid -- Less dense than solid Gas -- Less dense than liquid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If something is MORE dense, then it's usually HEAVIER.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i get that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For example, gold is very heavy, because it's a very dense material.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now.... SOLIDS are SUPPOSED to the the MOST DENSE, out of all the forms of matter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ice is solid, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ice is solid water.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But when we drop ice in water, it FLOATS. It doesn't sink.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you following?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the fact is that ice floats in water. What does that say about the density of ice, in comparison with water?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ice is more dense then water

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ice is less dense than water. It is lighter than water. That's why it floats. Listen. LESS dense = LIGHTER MORE dense = HEAVIER

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o okay i get that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now, earlier, you told me to come back and delete my answer. That's probably because you didn't want anyone to know that I had given you the answer to your homework. Is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I'll do you a favor: I'm not going to give you the answer this time. BUT I have explained enough so that you can come up with the answer on your own.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i have got most of them just some of them i don't really get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Remember, the question is...."How is water different from most other substances?" And remember, it USUALLY goes like this: Solid -- Most dense Liquid -- Less dense than solid Gas -- Less dense than liquid So how is water different?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you would you fan me so we can talk more often because you are a grate help to me and I think we could be friends

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You want my help, I'll help, no problem. It'll be hard for us to be friends. I just gotta be honest with you there. When I'm on this site, I'm often busy helping other people with their homework. It's nothing personal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's fine I am really okay with that
