Imagine it is one thousand years in the future! The city you live in thrived until humans moved to different parts of the planet. It fell into ruin but has recently been rediscovered by archaeologist! Now archaeologist and historians are rushing to the ruins in hopes they'll be the first to discover significant artifacts! In actuality, this is exactly what happened when American historian Hiram Bingham discovered Machu Picchu in Peru, on July 24th, 1911. What tools would archaeologist and historians use to investigate this city’s ruins? What types of artifacts or evidence would historians and

i dont understand what its trying to tell me.?? can someone please exaplain to me what there trying to tell me .? please and thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, you've read about ancient ruins, right? Like Machu Picchu, or the Great Pyramids, or the Colosseum in Rome? Back then, they were like everyday things to people. But today, they're pieces of the past that archaeologists study. All the question is asking is imagine what your city would look like a thousand years from now. Would it look brand new or would it be in ruins like the ancient cities of the past? What kind of tools would an archaeologist use to study the ruins of your city? What do you think they might find? If they dug up Disney World, would they think it was a temple to a mouse?

@Captain_Page_Turner so im supposes to write like i was in those times and i talk about i was there and it was abandon and discribe what went on there and then i say they took it down and changed it to a um for example park right .??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you mean write as if you were in the future?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea cuz it says Imagine it is one thousand years in the future! so do i act like i was in that time and that i was a banded and all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you just tell be what i have to write about please.? i really want to finish this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you got it! That's all it's asking, write as if you're in the future. Imagine what your city might look like. Then think like an archaeologist. What tools would they use to figure stuff out? Books? Shovels? Why not? Or they could be future tools like satellites to scan the terrain and imagine what your city looked like. You don't have to think of something like a sci-fi shovel or robot digger (unless you want to). Or...they could have robot diggers in the future, to dig up your city and find clues on how we lived.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but i dont have tools im just using word.??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But you're also using your words to describe what you're doing. It's like you're telling a story, like an adventure, to your teacher. Here's an example that might help you: "We dug up a building which might have been some kind of food place. Using our brushes, we cleaned off what looked like a sign. Only pieces of it remained, but it looked like it read 'billions and billions served'. I don't know what they served, but it was a lot of it."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can i use that as my starting point .??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure! It's just one example, but it's the basic idea for what you can write about. Just look at stuff around you and then imagine what people might think it might be a thousand years from now. They might find a Nintendo Wii and think it might be a footrest or something and then try to research it with the tools they have.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay but can you give me another example like that one.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can use the example I have up there for anything, really. Just look at something you have, or something in your city that you know about -- like a monument or a famous building -- and then think how archaeologists might try and figure out what it is. If they found a Gamestop, would they think it was a library? A repair shop? Or if they found a car store, it might be something like: "We uncovered rows of metal carriages with wheels and carefully dug them up using cranes and shovels. They were lined up, waiting for something." You and I know what they are, but a thousand years from now, would future people know? That's when you just use your imagination. Maybe to future people, it's just strange, so they'd have to try and research what they are.

oh okay thank you soo much
