How do I write x≤-5; (-∞, -5 ) on a number line? Draw it to explain.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

first, draw the x-axis then write -∞ on the left-most portion of the number line then from the center, mark -5 to the left, then use "]" or a closed circle ● then extend a line all the way to the left

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

your interval notation is incorrect though it is properly written as (-∞, -5]

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

you see it says less than or equal to, so that means -5 is included therefore you use ] or close circle ●

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do I use ] instead of ) ?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Intervals can never be closed with a [ or ] on -infinity or +infinity. They're left open with ( or ).
