What would be the most appropriate dietary change for a patient who had her gallbladder removed? Reduce the intake of fat Reduce the amount of protein in the diet Decrease the intake of dietary fiber Avoid foods high in sugar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The gallbladder produces bile salts, which assist in digesting fats. Reduced fat intake would be my guess.

The one that courtney posted said that last one :o Bleh Now I am really confused you guise!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me ask my aunt. she will know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know why ?

@shrutipande9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is A. The bile made by the gallbladder breaks down (emulsifies) fats. Usually, with a fatty meal the gallbladder squeezes and dumps in the bile to help digest that kind of meal. Without a gallbladder, the reserve supply is gone, so the fat isn't broken down. The intestine 'doesn't know what to do with it', so it is transported down stream...part of the reason 10% of people who have their gallbladder removed have frequent diarrhea.

sarah is right...:)
