Find the exact values of sin A and cos A. Write fractions in lowest terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PFEH.1999 Can you help with this one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or can anyone?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

http://www.mathwarehouse.com/trigonometry/images/sohcohtoa/sohcahtoa-all.png what do you think is the cos(A) and sin(A)? keep in mind, they're asking for the values for the \(\bf \measuredangle A\ not \ of\ \measuredangle B\)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

the opposite side of B is not the opposite side of A and so on so you'd need the proper sides for angle A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not sure, can you just tell me the answer and how you found it? this is a practice problem i have other ones i can do on my own.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

the opposite side to any angle, is the side that's "facing it off" so the opposite to say, angle B, is 36, because side 36 is "facing off" B now you need it for A, well, the side facing off angle A is 48, so that's A's opposite side the adjacent side to any angle, would be one of the shorter side that makes up the angle, the angle is made by 2 sides making a "corner", well, the shorter of those 2, is the adjacent

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

for the case of A, is 36 and the hypotenuse, will be the longest one, that is, 60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My answers are in fraction form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are: A. sin 3/5 cos 4/5 B. sin 4/3 cos 3/4 C. sin 5/4 cos 5/3 D. sin 4/5 cos 3/5

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes, that'd be in a fraction form

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

what did you get for cosine? and sine?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

the general rule for learning trig ratios is using the acronym SOH CAH TOA Sin = Opposite/Hypotenuse Cos = Adjacent/Hypotenuse Tan = Opposite/Adjacent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know, you did the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is sin 3/5?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmm... based on the numbers you're given in the picture, what would be the the sin(A)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im confused, can someone please just tell me the answer and how to get it?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

anything confusing about that picture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, would sin be 5/4?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, on your picture, you don't have any sides with 5 or 4..... so based on those numbers the sine will be something else

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sine is 60/36 but i was talking about simplified...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

36/60 i mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is 3/5 right?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

36/60 will be the sine of B the opposite side to any angle, is the side that's "facing it off" so the opposite to say, angle B, is 36, because side 36 is "facing off" B now you need it for A, well, the side facing off angle A is 48, so that's A's opposite side the adjacent side to any angle, would be one of the shorter side that makes up the angle, the angle is made by 2 sides making a "corner", well, the shorter of those 2, is the adjacent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im sorry, but can you please just tell me the answer and how you got it? i have other practice problems i want to do and this is taking forever.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PFEH.1999 can you please help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jdoe0001 Can you please help me with the answer?
