Physics vector question (I will give a medal to the best response). Okay, I know that when you cross multiply vectors: i x j = -j x i = k But what about -i x j or -j x -i? Would it be -k?

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

yes it would be. Use the right hand rule

OpenStudy (loser66):

@ybarrap tell more, I want to know, too. Please

Thank you @ybarrap!

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

If you take unit vector in the x direction, that would be \(\Large\hat{i}\) in the y direction \(\Large\hat{j}\), using the right hand rule, you cross these two unit vectors and you get the unit vector in the z axis direction, \(\Large\hat{k}\)

OpenStudy (loser66):

got you.

Here is a better explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_product#Coordinate_notation

You're welcome.
