why is a narrator a story teller?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A narrator is a story teller because he/she is the one who describes the story to the reader. The story teller/narrator is the connection between the reader and the story.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

The narrator is the voice that tells the story. Sometimes the narrator can be related to the story! It really just depends on the particular story. The narrator can be the main character in the story, an important character, a minor character, or someone who is not in the story at all. The narrator is important because he is the one who sets the tone and mood of the story. The one who adds the suspense. Imagine listening to an audio book with a narrator who always seems to have the same bored tone! The narrator sets the tone. The writer may choose to tell his story as if one friend is telling another a story or a parent is telling a bedtime story to his child. The character and attitude of the narrator color and limit the story. We see and hear only what the narrator sees and hears.
