OpenStudy (austinl):

\(2x+y=-11\\ 3x-4y=11\) If we solve the top equation for \(y\) we have, \(y=-2x-11\) You then plug that into the sectiond equation where \(y\) is. \(3x-4(-2x-11)=11\) Distribute. \(3x+8x+44=11\rightarrow 11x=-33\) \(x=-3\) Then you plug that back into either of the original equations and solve for \(y\) ! :)

OpenStudy (austinl):

Yes, but you need to know how to get the whole answer, not just extrapolate from part of the answer.

OpenStudy (nurali):

2x + y = -11---(1) 3x - 4y = 11---(2) in equation (1) 2x+y=-11 2x=-11-y x=-11-y/2 put in equation (2) 3(-11-y/2)-4y=11 -33-3y/2-4y=11 -33-3y-8y=22 -33-11y=22 -11y=22+33 -11y=55 y=-55/11 y=-5 put in equation (1) 2x + y = -11 2x-5=-11 2x=-11+5 2x=-6 x=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I plugged it in and got y = -5 and x = -3 thank you both <3 I don't know who to give the medal to but I'll fan you both

OpenStudy (nurali):

My Pleasure.

OpenStudy (austinl):

No problemo!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have two more like these that I need some help on, i believe i have the answers to them but i'm not sure i'll put them up if you'd take a look at them

OpenStudy (austinl):

Sure.
