What polynomial has roots of -6, -4, and 1 ? Choose one answer. A. x3 - 9x2 - 22x + 24 B. x3 - x2 - 26x - 24 C. x3 + x2 - 26x + 24 D. x3 + 9x2 + 14x - 24

OpenStudy (psymon):

If something is a root, you can write it in a factored form of (x-c), where the minus sign must be there. If the minus sign is not there, then it means the root is negative and caused the sign inside to be positive. So for example, if you have a root of -6, you can write the factor as (x+6). A root of -4 means you write the factor as (x+4). And finally, root of 1 means you can write the factor as (x-1). Now just take all 3 of those factors and multiply them out. (x+6)(x+4)(x-1)

I got 3x^2+14x+20...:C

OpenStudy (psymon):

hmm.....so lets see, (x+6)(x+4) gets x^2 + 10x + 24 (x^2 + 10x + 24)(x-1) gets x^3 - x^2 + 10x^2- 10x + 24x - 24 x^3 + 9x^2+ 14x - 24

OH Oh wow now I get why I always get these wrong :3 I do all the distributing at once!!! Thank you so so so so so much!

OpenStudy (psymon):

Kinda risky to do that. I wouldnt even try it, lol. The way I did it for you is the way id do it for myself, too xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (psymon):
