factor completely (4x^2+28x-36)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got so far 4(x^2+7-9) is that right? @AkashdeepDeb

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Yes that is good! 4(x^2+7x-9) Now find 2 numbers that add/subtract to +7 and multiply to give -9.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is none? lol im so confused.

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Yes that's right. Do you know the Quadratic formula by any chance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I probably do but not right off the top of my head

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

\[\frac{ -b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{ 2a }\] Ring a bell?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no.... lol

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

hehe. I don't really find any straight way to do this. Hold on let me see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for trying

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

This is the actual answer for this question! LOL ^_^ http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=4x%5E2%2B28x-36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have another one and im confused once again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3y^2-36y-63

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Take 3 common.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all I got was 3(y^2-12-21)

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Again! You HAVE to use the Quadratic Formula. http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=3y%5E2-36y-63

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got the answer, it was just 3(y^2-12y-21)

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

HAHAHAHHA LOL!! :D Normally, we simplify it down EVEN further but Yeah, even your answer is FACTORISED!! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol thank you! for helping me tho

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

:)
