Explain how to graph:

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

\[y = \frac{ 1 }{ 3 }x + 4\] Using the slope-intercept method

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

the slope is \[\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }\] So, what's next?

OpenStudy (debbieg):

What's the y-intercept?

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

4

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Right. so plot the y-intercept, Then use the slope to find another point. Remember, to graph a line you only need 2 points. The slope is "rise over run". So a slope of 1/3 means that for every "rise" of +1, you have a "run" of +3. Up 1, right 3. (Or, down 1, left 3, i you prefer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then from that point you 4

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

Start by plotting a point on the y-axis at y = 4 (the y-intercept) Plot the point 1 point above (rise) and 3 points to the right (run) from the y-intercept. Use a straightedge to connect the points and continue the line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yes that s correct ^ |

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

so, my points are (0, 4) and (3, 5)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well no it's (0,4)(1,3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AccidentalAiChan Those points are correct.
