what exactly is the difference between reflection and scattering of light?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You mean reflection of light through a mirror?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What you mean when you say scattering of light? we have scattering of fundamental particles such as electron and neutron as well.

OpenStudy (plainntall):

Scattering can occur when there are irregularities in the medium. I assume reflection is specular reflection and scattering is diffused reflection. If that is the case the difference is that reflection always reflects at the same angle while scattering reflects at an angle determined by the irregulatrity.

some thing more is required which i am unable to fully grasp.Aclear explanation is needed.

ansmurthy-after referring a few resources,I came to the conclusion that reflection of light occurs at an opaque surface but scattering of light occurs at a transparent medium solid ,liquid,or mostly gas.Can anybody confirm this?
