Solve the equation by factoring: 16x^2 +2x -3 = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did it as a*c and got -48 so then I factored it out to (2x+4)(x-12) but I substituted for x and the two equations don't match

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Should I maybe do like a (2x whatever)(8x whatever)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did u write this as 16x^2 +8x - 6x - 3 = 0 ??????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The equation's \[16x ^{2}+2x-3=0\]

OpenStudy (azureilai):

(2x+1)(8x-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I figured that out, but I'm not so sure as to why? S instead of doing a*c, I can just take the 16 and divide it out into the factors?

OpenStudy (radar):

niksva provided a real big hint, that will enable you to easily factor it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't understand what they meant. Why would I write it out like that though?
