How do you find an opposite coefficient?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

maybe it is just referring to integers, in a way that if you were given a positive number, the opposite is the negative of that number example: -3, the opposite is 3 so if I was asked to find the opposite coefficient of 5ab, then the opposite coefficient is -5

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

opposite coefficient of 5ab is -5ab sorry for the typo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So pretty much just negative of the original? Like 5b is -5b and -2a is 2 a?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

not the negative of the original perse if you were given a positive, then you just give the negative value of it, and then vice-versa positive becomes negative negative becomes positive

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

but you are essentially correct

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

I just read what you said again, and you are correct on all levels, because the negative of -5ab is -(-5ab) which is 5ab

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah okay. Thanks so much!
