is (-2,-6) a solution to the equation y=3x

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Why not substitute the values and see?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i tries i dont get it i am frustrated with it

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You have the relationship y = 3x You are given x = -2, substitute: y = 3(-2) You are given y = -6, substitute: -6 = 3(-2) Is that last equation true or not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i think so

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

3(-2) = -6 Yes it is. The challenge, I think, is to recognize that "(-2,-6)" means x = -2 and y = -6.
