how can you find out wheter a line is perpendicular to y=-2.5x+13?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

a perpendicular line will have the negative reciprocal of the slope in the above equation. The slope in the above equation is -2.5. The negative reciprocal of -2.5 is 1/2.5. To find the negative reciprocal, you just " flip " the fraction and change the sign. For example, the negative reciprocal of 3/2 is -2/3. Do you understand ?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

a perpendicular line to THAT, will have a NEGATIVE RECIPROCAL slope so the slope of that one is -2.5 RECIPROCAL of that 1/(-2.5) NEGATIVE of that -1/(-2.5)

ohhhhhh yea thank u!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would 2/5 be perpendicular to -2.5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nm

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

no ...-2.5 is perpendicular to 1/2.5. Because -2.5 is the same as -2.5/1. Flip the fraction and change the sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slope= \[\frac{ 1 }{ 2.5 }\]
