OpenStudy (noseboy908):
first you need to put it into slope-intercept form (make sure the formula is correct here)
OpenStudy (homeworksucks):
is that a 0 or a y?
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
yeah, it's usually a y
OpenStudy (anonymous):
its a zero , but i suppose it could be a y
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
odd

Then I guess, we have a special case!
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
are you sure you arn't solving for x?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
nope
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
you may need to do so
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
well suppose you need to, what's x=?

OpenStudy (noseboy908):
because that is a graph
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it would be 3
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
so, is x vertical or horizontal?
OpenStudy (homeworksucks):
Close, -3
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
oh, yeah, sorry. it is -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):
it does't say if horizontal or vertical
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
Just know that when graphing x or y, it's either a vertical or horizontal line, respectively
OpenStudy (homeworksucks):
There also is only one intercept, btw
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
so at, for instance, y=6, it's a horizontal line at 6 up from the origin
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
and at x=6, it's a vertical line, 6 right from the origin on the x axix

i know but all it gives me is that equation 3x+9=0 and to find slope without a graph or nothing
OpenStudy (homeworksucks):
Well, there is only one intercept, x=-3, which we solved earlier..
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
ok, all you need to know is that vertical lines are undefined, and hor. lines are 0.
OpenStudy (homeworksucks):
And with all two dimensional lines usually have TWO
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
so either m=0 or "undefined"

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):
So, this one clearly is one-dimensional
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yea i think it is
OpenStudy (homeworksucks):
On the x-axis, so a straight line up and down, and since slope is rise over run, rise being, (let's choose a random point) 4, the run, would obviously be 0. You can't divide by 0, so its undefined.
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
aptly stated homework
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yea

so i guesses its undefined
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
yep. 0/anything = undefined
OpenStudy (noseboy908):
when refering to slope, that is
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yea thats true
OpenStudy (anonymous):
thank you very much both of u guys, i appreciate it
