Define Derivative in words!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

derivative is a measure of how a function changes as its input changes. Loosely speaking, a derivative can be thought of as how much one quantity is changing in response to changes in some other quantity; for example, the derivative of the position of a moving object with respect to time is the object's instantaneous velocity.

Thanks, The Derivative of a constant number is zero, What does this mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A derivative gives the slope of an equation at any given point. A constant is a horizontal line, so its slope is 0 at any given point. And if you think of a constant as C*(x^0), the derivative is still 0 because if you use product rule... C'(x^0)+C(x^0)' 0(1)+C(0)=0 The derivative of x^0 is 0 as using power rule, you drop down the power and lower the power giving you 0(x^-1) That still equals zero Just remember that the derivative of a constant is always 0 as the slope of a horizontal line is always 0.
