What is the graph of the rational function?
Well, do you know where your asymptote should be?
no i dnt know how to do this equation
So you dont know how to find asymptotes? Do you know what asymptotes are?
a
no
Well, you were just given the answer, so no point in me explaining.
If you want to know ho to do it, plug in numbers and graph
you can still explain for me please so i can learn how to do them
Well, do you know what an asymptote is in the first place?
thanks @jmeert
no
Its a line that the graph basically doesnt cross. The graph gets close to it, but never touches it. On your pictures, the asymptotes are the dashed lines.
As for how to find those asymptotes, they exist at spots where the graph cant exist. For example, when you have a fraction, youre not allowed to have 0 in the denominator. So most of the time, the dashed lines (asymptotes) that run up and down are at spots that make the denominator 0. Kind of make sense so far?
YES IT DOES
okay, awesome. So can you see what value of x would make the denominator of your fraction become 0?
@Psymon You explained that a lot better than I would have.
YES
so what value of x makes the bottom 0? :P
i have no idea
So right now you have x + 1. And you want to see what you can plug in for x such that x + 1 = 0. So basically, solve for x in the equation x + 1 = 0.
oh okay welll thanks can you help me with one just like this one
Yeah, if you want.
ok ill tag u
