This graph of a function is a translation of y= 2/x . What is an equation for the function?

@Psymon

OpenStudy (psymon):

Okay, lets start off with the original function, 2/x. If we cannot have 0 in the denominator, then we cannot have x be 0 in 2/x, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (psymon):

So that means that NORMALLY, the asymptote would be at x = 0. But if we look at your graph, the asymptote is 5 to the left of 0. Kinda see what I mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i get it

OpenStudy (psymon):

So now we have to know how to make 2/x move 5 to the right. This can be done if we subtract 5 from x. Not subtract 5 from the entire thing, but subtract 5 from x. So that being said, we can eliminate a and d because those subtract only 3 from x. Oh, and subtracting and adding to x moves the graph you have left and right, just so ya know from now on :3 Withme so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah sorry i went to the restroom

OpenStudy (psymon):

okay, cool. So we moved right 5 because we subtracted 5 from x. Now also notice that the original function, 2/x has no x-intercept. Which means out 2/x NORMALLY looks like this: |dw:1380856612370:dw| So from that picture we move right 5. How much does it look like your gralh has moved up or down fromthe originalI drew?
