I am having some trouble with Direct Variation. How do I know if (y) varies with (x) in the following problems? y=12x y=-5x y-6x=0

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(y = kx\) y varies directly wid x, where k is a constant

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

all your given equations are of examples of direct variation, as they can be changed to \(y = kx\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So as long as the equation is y=kx (y) directly varies with (x)? @ganeshie8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yup !

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

k can be any real number, doesnt matter negative/positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 Okay! Thank you so much!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

y = kx as x changes by something, y always changes by k times of x.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np :) careful about below equation, y= kx + b its not a direct variation
