can anyone explain it to me how to differentiate the use of would and will in certain situations?
We can use 'will' for a prediction. It is midnight, and Sarah is still working. She will be tired tomorrow. We are going to Cornwall for the weekend, that‘ll be nice. Wait a minute while I send this email, it will not take long. We can use 'will' for quick decisions or for an offer. Sir, Tea or coffee? I shall have coffee please. (Decision) I can wait for you if you like, thanks, I won’t (will not) be late We use won’t (will not) and would not for refusals. 'Won’t' is for strong refusal and would not for normal refusal. The labor won’t go back to work until they get a pay increase. They key went in the lock but it would not turn. I won’t listen to any more of this nonsense. We use would for past prediction or prediction about possible situation. Past Prediction: At midnight Sarah was still working. She would be tired the next day. Possible situation: How about going to Cornwall next weekend? That would be nice. I would not enjoy a camping holiday. We also use would like (‘d like) when we ask for something. I would like a brochure, please. ( This is a more polite way to ask for a brochure instead of ‘I want a brochure’ ) We would like to order our drinks first. We also use would like in offers and invitations. Would you like a free gift? Would you like to visit the university with us
thanks! it helped me to undrstand
