1080?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
If you foil it then you would get \[10a ^{2}+14a-12\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Do you understand how I got that?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
No how'd you get that?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ok so the original problem is (5a-3)(2a+4).
Foil stands for First, Outside, Inside, and Last.
So, you would start by multiplying the first two terms.

\[5a \times 2a\] 5 x 2 = 10
a x a = \[a ^{2}\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Outside: 5a x 4 = 20a
Inside: -3 x 2a = -6a
Last: -3 x 4 = 12
OpenStudy (anonymous):
put it together and you have
\[10a ^{2}+20a-6a-12\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
combine like terms
20a - 6a = 14a
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yo wait I had that but instead I wrote 10a+20a+(-6a)+(-12)
I think adding the positive sign messed me up

ok then:) don't forget that it's \[10a ^{2}\] not 10a
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so thats 100 right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no the answer is 10a^2 +14a−12 unless you know what a is or what to replace it with you cannot get an answer without a variable.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
do you understand that?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yeah I get it now, Thank you
