Write an equation for the following transformation of y = x: a vertical stretch by a factor of 4.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Y = Vertical axis. X = Horizontal axis. \(\color{red}{\text{Vertical stretch by a factor of four}}.\)

OpenStudy (opcode):

I cannot give you the answer just hint do you understand this part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I multiply y by 4 does that work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4y = x

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

I'm not sure, but I think when it is stretched, it means that now it will cover a larger area for the same x. So I think that is right.

OpenStudy (opcode):

So sorry for ignoring you, just kinda got lost in my homework.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Remember: \[C = Shrinking~or~stretching~factor\] Shrinking graphs: \[y = c~(x - h)^2 + k \Rightarrow (h, k) = vertex\] Absolute value: \[y = c~|x - h| + k \Rightarrow (h, k) = vertex\] \[-1 < c < 1;~c \neq 0~\text{This means to shrink.}\] Stretching graphs: \[c > 1;~ c < -1\text{This means to stretch.}\]
