If the aminoacid is present in the core of protein it is said to be hydrophobic whereas when it is present on the surface it is said to be hydrophilic
the core part of the protein is always hydrophobic!!and surfacial part is hydrophilic as their functional group are hydrophilics!!
General rule of thumb, look at the side chain and if there are functional groups that can hydrogen-bond, they are hydrophillic (usually -OH or -N) If they're charged, they're hydrophillic. If they are all hydrocarbons, they're hydrophobic. There are a couple on the edge and you will need to check but most follow this rule.
